What's a Glass Bottom?

Glass Bottom Brewery is a constantly transforming narrative. Once upon a time, it was the dream of three high school friends, Ezra Bloom, Evan Williams, and Matt Blake. With the support of family members and friends, they embarked on an endeavor to breathe life into their dream. Mustering the enthusiasm and naivety of youth, they injected their passions for brewing and farming into brick and mortar, soil and vines. They transformed their dream into a real three dimensional space. They did an honest, imperfect job.

From 2013 to 2015 Glass Bottom Brewery was a real thing. It was a place that you could actually visit and see, touch, taste, hear, and smell things. The things you could see, touch, taste, hear and smell were partially realized dreams. Walking into the tasting room in the warehouse at 480 Pleasant Street was like walking into the sometimes chaotic machinations of another person's mind. Sampling the beer there was interesting, challenging, and usually enjoyable. It was an earnest, imaginative, and fun place to visit, and it struck a cord with some people who could see the vision through the bottom of their pint glasses.

In 2015, we had to say goodbye to the realm of the physical. We regret that our friends can no longer drop by, say hello, and taste our latest concoctions. It has left us somewhat adrift in a sea of existential soul searching. We thought long and hard about just what story it is we are caught up in, and this is what we came up with:

Glass Bottom Brewery represents the belief that beer can be a vehicle for artistic expression. Our beers combine traditional and nontraditional ingredients to craft creative liquid narratives that are more than the sum of their parts. Each beer aspires to captivate the drinker with a story in addition to providing a great drinking experience. The original recipes were created in Lee, MA by co-founders Ezra Bloom and Evan Williams.

As time ticks by, Glass Bottom is still creating new and interesting stories using the unconventional medium of beer.  We don't know what the future will bring, but we do know that our story is still being told.
